She's a big Girl

Dixie Dime was design and intended to be a trailerable loop capable cruiser that would be as home on the trailer as on the water. We wanted a boat we could comfortable and legally tow pretty much anywhere, day or night. She was built pretty much the max size that can be transported without special permits and such. That limited her beam to 102" and due to some states limiting trailer lengths to 40' that made the 33' length about long as she could be when you add in the required tongue. Don't get me wrong, we don't just attempt to launch her at any ram. She can deal with most public if they are long enough for her. She has a fuller bow than most go-fast type boats and her center of gravity is well forward, so she definitely prefers ramps that aren't super steep. We went back an added rollers in addition to her bunks forward to help her load and unload. The main thing that makes some launch ramps unsuitable for her is a bump or abrupt drop at the top of the ramp. Her custom trailer was designed to ride as low as practical to the ground to make her more useable as an on-road camper and improve handling and reduce bridge clearance height. This combined with her trailer's length can sometimes bring the drop crossmembers in contact with a ramp if the drop is not gradual from the staging area. Though this can many times be compensated by placing boards or such under the trailer wheels it is best to be avoided if possible.  I have designed a high-low hitch receiver that I have yet to fabricate that I believe will rectify this problem by allowing the ball height to be raised or lowered on the ramp.
